Learn about Egg Harbor Marina History

The Egg Harbor Historical Society will host – and Captain Steve Smith (above) will present – “The History of Our Egg Harbor Marina” on June 14, 7 pm, at the Kress Pavilion, 7845 Church St. in Egg Harbor.

Egg Harbor’s long sailing history involves Captain Kirkland and Ferdinand Jorns, who were both freighting the Green Bay and Great Lakes waters with their schooners in the 1800s. Later, John Bertschinger was trading in the area with two gasoline freighters, and Doctor H.F. Eames’ busy pier handled freight and passengers. In 2009, the village permitted and financed a new marina, finishing in 2010. Smith served as the village’s representative during the construction process and will discuss the marina now and where it began.
