Learn Chinese with the Lindens

Chinese students learn English in “English Corner,” the sister class of “Chinese Corner,” offered by the Lindens in Ellison Bay.

The public is invited to join the new “Chinese Corner,” a weekly conversation class for anyone wanting to learn and speak Mandarin, the official language of China and Singapore, spoken by an estimated 1 billion people. “Chinese Corner” will take place every Wednesday from 6:30 – 7:30 pm at the Linden Gallery in Ellison Bay beginning July 7.

This past year, Jeanee Linden and Martha Aurelius taught a weekly “English Corner” to the village children at the Linden Centre in China as a way of giving back to the community. Now they have the opportunity to teach to English speakers.

Linden is organizing the “Chinese Corner” class to bring together people interested in the Chinese language. The class will focus on basic phrases that are useful for travelling overseas or while conversing with friends and acquaintances.

“We will invite native Chinese speakers to come and help me teach in a relaxed and fun atmosphere,” said Linden. “I wish I had this kind of opportunity when I was learning Mandarin.” Door County has a large population of international students eager to speak and teach their native languages. Many Chinese students working for the season will participate in the class.

All “Chinese Corner” classes are free and open to the public. Linden Gallery is located at Hwy 42 and Mink River Road in downtown Ellison Bay. For more information call 920.854.2487.
