Learn to Reinvent Watercolors with Kari Anderson

Have a stack of unsatisfactory watercolor paintings? Incomplete paintings from workshops? Exercises and samples of techniques or brushwork experiments?

“Reinvent Your Watercolor Paintings with Kari Anderson” at the Peninsula School of Art will instruct participants to isolate beautiful compositions within larger works. Cut, recombine and paste to create new works that can be matted and framed, used as cards, or incorporated into mixed media works.

Anderson encourages novice and advanced students of watercolor to be brave and have fun with the media.

This workshop will be held on Dec. 8, 9 am – 3 pm, at the Peninsula School of Art, located at 3900 County F in Fish Creek.

The school also offers many other workshops, in varied media, throughout the winter.

“Once You Can Throw, You Have Wings with Jeanne Aurelius,” is scheduled for Jan. 8, 15, 22, and 29 from 6 – 8:30 pm. “Once you can throw you have wings,” is a quote from Marguerite Wildenhain, who Aurelius studied with in 1974 at her California studio. This workshop will teach participants to throw on the pottery wheel. Each of the four class sessions emphasizes techniques to create different shapes.

“Get Ready for Your Trip: Travel Sketching with Nina Weiss” is offered on Jan. 12 and 13, 9 am – 4 pm. By working from their own travel photos and references, participants will learn to quickly and expressively capture the landscapes of their travels.

Water-based pens and colored pencils will be used along with techniques like washes, layering, optical mixing and color to create the sketches.
