Leave No Trace Spotlight At Peninsula State Park

The Leave No Trace organization has selected Peninsula State Park as a 2023 Spotlight site, and to celebrate that designation, the park hosted multi-day events that culminate with several more this weekend.

On June 9, 11 am – 4 pm, visit Eagle Tower to ask questions, win prizes and learn more about Leave No Trace and Door County. Peninsula State Park education staff will be on hand to share information about the Niagara Escarpment and the endemic species that live in its special habitat.

Hikes on the Sentinel Trail take place June 9, 1 and 3 pm. A park naturalist will lead the hikes while sharing information about native tree species and Leave No Trace ethics.

Then meet at the White Cedar Nature Center on June 9, 7 pm, for a program on campfire safety with the Leave No Trace team. Enjoy s’mores while learning about best practices for campfires.

A stewardship workday will round out the events on June 10, 8 am – 12 pm, at Nelson’s Point. No experience is necessary, and all tools and equipment will be provided. Volunteers are asked to arrive with enthusiasm, comfortable clothes and a reusable water bottle.
