LEED Tours Continue at Sister Bay Home

Nov. 11 marks the third of four in-construction open houses for what is expected to be Door County’s third LEED Platinum home. Each open house is structured as an educational opportunity for the public to learn about energy-efficient home construction and about the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program), which results in some of the world’s most environmentally responsible buildings.

The home, located at 10204 Kinsey Bay Lane in Sister Bay, is nearing construction completion by Ahnapee Construction of Algoma. This open house will focus on how the building and ductwork are tested for possible leakage and about solar electric and heating. LEED Rater Tom Krawczyk of TJH Energy Consulting will be on hand to explain the testing process, and John Hippensteel of Lake Michigan Wind and Sun will offer mini-seminars on sizing and installing solar electric systems. Architect Virge Temme will conduct tours through the home, explaining the LEED process, and the energy-efficient features of the home.

Open house hours are from 12 to 4 pm. The final open house for this home will be held in May, after landscaping is complete.
