Lego League Assembles in Door County

Three Door County YMCA teams are now meeting weekly and assembling Lego robots as a part of the FIRST Lego League program for fourth through eighth grade students. YMCA teams are now meeting at Southern Door, The Door County Economic Development Corporation offices and the Boys and Girls Club. Each group of up to ten boys and girls is led by a coach who helps children learn problem-solving skills, teamwork, cooperation and what FIRST refers to as gracious professionalism.

The teams are being led by Mary Donaldson and Donald Donaldson, both local educators have had extensive experience with the FIRST Lego League program in Minneapolis prior to moving to Door County. “We are pleased to be able to launch these first three teams in Door County and introduce this worldwide program to our local students. We are hopeful that this program will continue and expand over the years,” explained Tom Beerntsen, YMCA CEO.
