Len’s Pic of the Week: Ice, Ice, Baby

I was at Cave Point – one of my favorite photo destinations in Door County – and I found these ice formations. There were formations everywhere, so there were lots to choose from, but I liked this one in particular because it reminded me more of stalactites and stalagmites in a cave than ice. This was fitting because it was at Cave Point County Park. 

I photographed the formations a few different ways: close up, wide angles, even with someone standing in front for scale. But this is definitely my favorite version. Simple. Nothing too clever. Just using the ice to frame Lake Michigan in the background and adding to the cave mystique. 

In photography there is more than one right answer, so don’t stop after your first choice. Keep looking and thinking it through. That’s the best part of photography.
