Less is More

The community is invited to attend a reception on Sept. 20 from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Door County Community Foundation to open its fall exhibition featuring works by artists Kirsten Christianson and Rob Williams.

For the past 20 years, Christianson has been doing artist-in-residencies in schools and communities around the state of Wisconsin. Christianson’s work is reflective of the place where she lives along Lake Michigan. She loves to work sculpturally with handmade paper, branches and driftwood to create freestanding art. She also loves to create small paper pieces with ferns and pressed plants embedded into the paper.

Williams’ adult life is largely about visual art. He believes that the rugged beauty of Door County cries out to be painted and has been an unending source of subject matter for his watercolors and large oil landscapes. His style is shaped by the idea that too much detail in a painting is distracting to the overall effect. Less is more; color, shape and form become most important.

Refreshments will be served by Morag Hornsby and her team at Serves You Right Catering.

Each quarter, different Door County artists will be invited to exhibit their work. The gallery is open to the public during the Community Foundation’s regular hours of 8 am – 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. For more information visit GiveDoorCounty.org.
