Join Door County’s organic gardening guru Linda Cockburn for an informative class on planting and seed collecting at Greens N Grains on April 5. In “Let’s Get Planting,” Cockburn will explain how to start seed flats, how to maintain them and how to eventually transplant them into an organic garden.
Cockburn will cover all of the gardening options such as straw bale gardening, container gardens and how, when and why to use raised garden beds. Understanding the soil, plant needs and learning how to deal with any little pests from insects to furred or feather friends that crop up, will also be touched upon. Then, Cockburn will explain how to collect and preserve heritage seeds for next year and how store the harvest. She will also have earthworm castings (soil) and organic seeds, if students want to purchase a “starter kit.”
This Lunch and a Lesson will be held from 11 am to 1 pm. The fee is $5 for the class, or $9 for the class and a lunch of organic soup, roll and a coffee/tea. Greens N Grains Natural Food Store is open daily from 10 am – 5 pm, located in downtown Egg Harbor at 7821 Highway 42. For more information visit Greens-N-Grains.com.
