Letter to the Editor: Coward

Estimates are that about 10 percent of those in the military are involved in actual combat. I was one of the 90 percent who never shot at anyone or was shot at but I do know combat veterans and do believe that actual combat is one of the greatest maladjustments anyone can experience. We don’t know what was going through Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl’s mind at the time he walked off his post in Afghanistan. We know he was in combat and spent five very unpleasant years as a Taliban captive. President Trump who received five deferments during the Vietnam War, one because of bone spurs in his feet, which didn’t bother him when he played college basketball, was quick to criticize a military judge’s decision to reduce Bergdahl’s sentence to a dishonorable discharge. Trump called Bergdahl a “dirty rotten traitor.” President Trump has been called many well deserved but uncomplimentary names such as narcissist, psychopath, fraud, pathological liar, blowhard, etc. I would add coward to that list.
