Letter to the Editor: Dr. Strangelove and Donald Trump

I recently watched Dr. Strangelove by Stanley Kubrick for the umpteenth time. If you are not familiar, it’s a political satire black comedy about nuclear war between the USA and USSR. There are seven major characters. In a surreal way, they have similar characteristics to those of Donald Trump, and the cast of characters he is surrounded by. First, Miss Scott (Kellyanne Conway) she will say or do anything for her boss, Gen. Buck Turginson, a womanizer with unusual facial expressions and tics. Col “Bat” Guano, enough said. Gen. Ripper, an unbalanced, erratic, germaphobe who orders the first strike. Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake (Sen. John McCain) who tries to stop him. Maj. TJ “King” Kong (Ret. Gen. Michael Flynn), who rides the atomic bomb to its target. Dr. Strangelove, expert scientific adviser to the president, and ex-Nazi whose advice after the bomb detonates, that they move to underground mineshafts with a 10 to 1 female to male ratio to repopulate the USA. And finally President Merkin Muffley, who you will decide on Nov. 8.
