In light of our president now going forward with opening up the contested pipelines, I wonder how many of us knew about the change of wording on eminent domain in our state. Enbridge, a Canadian energy distribution corporation, building pipelines across the continent, worked with our State Legislature to change our state eminent domain law. So how does that affect us? Well, this is how; it now makes it possible for a foreign company to take a Wisconsinite’s land for its private use.
Eminent domain meant, before the change, the right of government to expropriate private property for public use. Well, if this is what is called our state legislature working for us, I believe we may be in trouble.
