Letter to the Editor: The Fate of the Granary

To the Editor,

Depending on the fate of the Granary Building in Sturgeon Bay, here are two alternative Letters To The Editor.

Letter #1:  “Shame on you! Shame on us! We have lost an iconic, historic, salvageable landmark due to the forces of ‘development’ and worse. It had the potential of being a beloved residents’ center and a tourist attraction, reflecting the pride of a unique city. Instead, the Granary Building will appear on the cover of Lost Door County, a book which need not have been written. Read and weep.”

Letter #2:  “Congratulations to all the citizens and leaders who managed to save the Granary Building from being demolished, and who will give it as a gift to future Door County citizens and visitors, becoming ever more precious as the past remains preserved. Enlightened and responsive government, working with visionary residents, is the most powerful force for the common good. Enjoy the victory.”

May the proper letter prevail.
