Letter to the Editor: To Gov. Walker: Don’t Ignore the Protests

As I listened to my morning news, it was not a journalist interpreting an event. Not fake news. It was the direct recording, the live words of our own Gov. Scott Walker. He was speaking at the recent CPAC, AKA Conservative Political Action Committee meeting. In attendance were governors along with numerous participants from across the country. His words of advice: “Ignore the protests!”

Ignore the protests? Really? Does this mean that ignoring dissent is the latest political strategy? I don’t even want to think it is so. I also want to reject what we have all been hearing and fearing. We might be witnessing the breakdown of Democracy!

Most of us do not want to be cynical and bitter about our politicians. The majority of candidates who run for office do so because they believe they can make a difference by acting in the best interest of all their constituents. They welcome and stay open to different points of view. I understand that the Republicans are “riding the wave” of a highly successful election but please, let’s stay true to the principal that there are truths on all sides of an issue. Let’s get back to listening to each other with a respectful attitude.
