Letter to the Editor: High Schoolers for Workforce

Catching up on old issues of the Peninsula Pulse now that we’re back in Door County, the plight of shop owners, restaurants, hotels/motels, etc. caught my eye. Due to Pres. Trump’s cuts, the shortage of Internationals being allowed to come to work this year has caused a shortage of help for many of these businesses.

Now, I don’t know the particulars of how the International students are recruited, who pays for their transportation to Door County, who provides housing for them, etc., but it seems to me that you could offer the same accommodations and recruit Wisconsin high school students and possibly get the help so desperately needed. Who wouldn’t want to come to Door County to work for the summer months? If this approach hasn’t been tried, I strongly suggest it might be a viable option. Just a thought.
