Letter to the Editor: ‘I Inherited A Mess’

Day after day President Trump utters the words “I inherited a mess.” He did so again in his April 5th press conference with the King of Jordan.

Let’s look at the facts.

When Obama took office the country was losing a half million jobs a month.

When Obama took office the stock market was cratering and had fallen nearly 50 percent.

President Bush started the Iraq war, not Obama.

The seeds for ISIS/Syria were sown under Bush, primarily by dismantling the Iraq army.

North Korea has been a critical issue for years. The last half dozen presidents have all tried to get it under control, none have been successful.

Obama may or may not have managed the Iraq/ISIS/Syria situation well, only time will tell, but he inherited the situation from George Bush.

I do not believe that anyone can quote Obama uttering the words “I inherited a mess,” not once in eight years.

What if Obama had repeatedly uttered the words “I inherited a mess” when he first took office? We were teetering on the edge of a depression comparable to the Great Depression, or maybe worse. Had Obama uttered the words “I inherited a mess,” especially if he did so day after day, he would have shown no confidence in our economy and we could well have plunged off the cliff. Just imagine where we (you) could be today.

We all know how much of a mess Trump inherited. Unemployment is the lowest in over a decade. The stock market is setting all time highs. Home prices are back to the level of 2008. Record auto sales. The foundation for all of this was set under Obama. And we have not had a 9/11 incident again either, but credit for that goes as much to George Bush as it does to Obama, but the fact is that there has not been a repeat of 9/11. Trump is inheriting all of this.

Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman and Barack Obama all inherited a mess! Not one of them cried about it. I would love for someone to publish a legitimate quote, with sources. I am sure that they cannot do so.

But then, these men are all men, not spoiled rotten adolescents! None of them was a traitor either, that is yet to be determined about Trump.
