Letter to the Editor: Should Money Equal Power?

Thank you to the League of Women Voters for a most informative meeting last Tuesday evening at the Sturgeon Bay Library. Sixty plus people heard from Jim Black and Dan Powers about getting money out of politics. Although it would be difficult for me to summarize this excellent presentation, I can tell you that it is an important issue that we should learn more about. There are many ways to do this if you missed the presentation. Go to or email either of the presenters: [email protected] or [email protected].

This is a non-partisan issue. According to polls, more than 90 percent of Americans are concerned about the corruption in Washington. The flood of money into politics is drowning out democracy. The effect is corrupting our political system. We need to amend our constitution so that people once again have a voice and that our representatives are not bought by big money.

Once again, do your own research. Learn about the movement to amend the constitution. If this has piqued your interest, visit the website and educate yourself.
