Letter to the Editor: Now is the Time

Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country. Remember those words from a long ago typing class? An appropriate saying, as we watch the tax reform “dog and pony” show play out. We have just witnessed a senate bill passed in the dark of night with no review or hearings. Remember another old saying “nothing good happens after midnight?” So far the bill appears to give exemptions for private jet and golf course owners and exemptions from estate taxes, along with many questionable changes to the tax code pertaining to deductions that many average citizens use.

Instead of making a better place for the majority of Americans the Republicans are making a better place for themselves, their donors and the wealthy one percent. It appears they would rather exploit the middle class, the poor, the needy and children rather than giving anyone a hand up. So I have to ask, who are the few good men in congress who will stand up to the pressure of their party and do the right thing for the majority of Americans? So that in this most holy season there will be peace and justice for all.
