Letter to the Editor: President Pence

Vice President Pence has become much less vocal in his defense of President Trump. Is it possible that he is quietly working the back rooms to convince the party leaders (and this will not be hard) that impeaching Trump and moving him (Pence) into the Presidential office will be the salvation of the Republican Party?

Conventional wisdom is that Trump cannot be impeached as long as he has a lock on the Republican Party grassroots. That would be true if Pence was not the alternative, but Pence is the alternative. The religious right will fall in line behind Pence in an instant.

I would not be surprised if we see a “Saturday Night Massacre” just before the 2018 November election. An overnight impeachment of Trump and coronation of Pence just before that election could be a game changer for American politics. It could also be a painful lesson for Putin who would not only see his handpicked American president fall, Russia could see some painful repercussions.

I personally would hate to see the religious right take control of America, but I think that we are being set up for that.
