The United States is under attack by Russian operatives who meddled in the 2016 elections in at least seven states and is continuing to meddle with our elections today. What has the President of the United States done about it? Nothing! This brazen assault on our U.S. democracy goes unpunished! We can forget all the distractions that Trump throws our way whether it is publicity stunts to show off his so-called concern about gun legislation or announcements on trade that throw the entire world into a slump. The really important and threatening issue is his lack of action and leadership to stop Russian meddling in our elections. Not only Trump but our national security agencies need to make this a priority and confront Moscow now and make sure that our voter registration systems in each state are secure as well as make sure that social media hacks are not using Facebook and Twitter as mechanisms to spread hate and dissension.
At a March 5 meeting before the U.S. Congress, the heads of several national security agencies (FBI, CIA, NSA, etc.) testified that they have not been given instructions from the White House to deal with the Russian meddling in the elections. Trump has not requested them to take action. He also has not implemented the Russian sanctions that Congress voted into place last fall!
The State Department was granted $120 million to fight Russian meddling and to date has spent $0. The department’s Global Engagement Center – which has been given the task of tracking Russian efforts – was given the money during the Obama Administration and Rex Tillerson couldn’t decide how to use it or didn’t hire the folks qualified to implement the Russian investigation.
In my opinion, Trump and his administration are guilty of dereliction of duty; perhaps even treason.
