Letter to the Editor: Why Trees Along Highways Are Trimmed

This is in response to Roger J. Benedict’s (part-time resident) letter which appeared earlier this month. He was upset by the tree trimming on Beechwood Road which appears to have harmed his view.

I was going to point out to him that trees are trimmed to minimize power outages in the winter months. Alas a thunderstorm July 12 likely gave him a better lesson when 2,800 customers in Liberty Grove were without power on July 13. Likely cause for some of this outage was tree branches on power lines.

Lesson to all of us, no trees near power lines!

PS: I have a standby generator.
