Letter to the Editor: Use of Force

On March 25th, the Brussels police engaged in two separate shootouts with terrorists and “neutralized” both terrorists by shooting them in the legs. This was three days after the bombings involving substantial loss of life and in each of these cases the police were arresting potentially deadly terrorists.

In the United States police feel free to shoot to kill a child carrying a toy pistol, a young man jaywalking across the street, a elderly woman who came to the door to aid the police, and untold other unprovoked killings.

It seems to me that our law enforcement experts need to go to Europe and learn something about the rights of citizens and the appropriate use of force.
