Letter to the Editor: A Tribute to Home

Come to beautiful Door County! Beautiful bluffs, cedar woods, wild flowers and wildlife, too. Find a homesite in the quiet, dark woods; on a bluff; or if you’re lucky, a plot by the water.

Then put in a lawn. Be sure to give it lots of fertilizer and weed killer because if you are on the shore, much will wash into the water. Oops! Where did the trillium, Solomon’s seal, clintonia, mayflower

columbine and lady’s slippers go?

Now we need to mow it so it is pretty, and also have any grass cuttings blown away.

Gosh, there are ticks and mosquitos! Blow poison on the lawn. Kill them all, including any insects, honeybees, bumblebees, etc. Gosh, where did all the birds go?

Finally, put in lots of lights so the neighbors can see your beautiful lawn at night. You can put the lights along the driveway and paths, and also around rocks and trees. Where did the Milky Way go?

It looks just like home now!
