Letter to the Editor: Consider Giving to DOOR CANcer

At this time of year, as we start thinking of the gifts we want to give, it is also time to think of the gifts we have received throughout the year. The list starts with faith and family and living in this wonderful community. Another precious gift is that of our health. However, many in our community have had that gift taken away by cancer. We ask that you keep these community members in mind and consider giving to DOOR CANcer, Inc. as we try to help them financially to pay their bills, keep their homes and get to their treatment.

DOOR CANcer is a community-based volunteer organization dedicated to serving Door County individuals and families affected by cancer. Our goal is to alleviate some of the suffering through financial assistance to those who are finding their diagnosis creates a serious financial burden. Payments for mortgages, insurance, transportation, groceries and utilities, as well as expenses for their children are made to these cancer patients while they are in treatment.

We are in our 21st year and have given out over $1,000,000 in financial assistance. Ninety-eight percent of donations go to Door County residents in active cancer treatment; two percent goes to expenses associated with fundraising. DOOR CANcer, Inc. does not employ any staff or reimburse members for their work or time on behalf of these deserving people. All is donated.

Please consider DOOR CANcer, Inc. when making your charitable donations. We are a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization. All donations are kept in Door County and your gift will be tax deductible.

DOOR CAN is making a difference and so CAN you.
