Letter to the Editor: Door County Pride

Several years ago when I was on the Door County Chamber of Commerce board, we had an in-depth discussion about how we wanted and perceived the county to look in 10, 20, 30 years. We all came to the conclusion that we knew what we didn’t want it to look like! As our CEO stated, as soon as we look like the places visitors came here from, the less the reason to come: a pretty true and scary thought.

Let’s try to focus on our natural beauty, our beaches, our quaint villages, our parks, our open fields, our interesting small shops, family-run restaurants and businesses, walking trails, bike trails, silent sports opportunities and on and on.

We aren’t like everywhere people came from, and we don’t want to be. Do we?
