Letter to the Editor: Endorsement for Janet Protasiewicz

On Feb. 21, there will be a primary election for a justice on the Wisconsin Supreme Court. There are four candidates for this position. We are supporting Judge Janet Protasiewicz for this seat. The following are our reasons why.

Judge Protasiewicz has been a Milwaukee County Circuit Court judge for the past eight-plus years. During that time, she has presided over myriad criminal and civil matters. During her tenure on the bench, she has established a reputation for being a fair and impartial jurist and an upholder of the rule of law. She is a firm believer in an independent judicial branch and has striven to be a protector of individuals’ constitutional rights.

Judge Protasiewicz, prior to becoming a judge, was an assistant district attorney for more than 25 years. During that service, she prosecuted serious crimes and gained respect as a staunch advocate for victims of those offenses. In addition to her professional career, she has also been a community leader, serving over the years in a number of civic and cultural organizations.

We believe that all of the above attributes and her almost 35 years of legal experience qualify Judge Protasiewicz to be an outstanding justice on our Supreme Court. We urge the citizens of Door County to join us in supporting her to be the next justice on the Wisconsin Supreme Court in the primary election on Feb. 21 and the general spring election on April 4. We further urge all eligible voters to exercise their constitutionally protected right to vote.
