Letter to the Editor: ‘Fear and Ignorance Are Never a Basis for Running a Country’

As we continue to be assaulted by the bizarre behavior of this president, one has to wonder when the Republicans in Congress are going to find their spines. As we watch them trying to justify what the president has done and tap dancing around questions, it would be comical if it wasn’t so sad. They must go to special classes on how not to answer a yes/no question.

It appears the Republicans think that this is acceptable behavior for the president of the United States, and if that is the case, then we are in deep trouble. We as a nation have lost all credibility throughout the world, and our word means nothing.

Maybe being a Republican in Congress means that the “trickle-down effect” is no moral compass, compassion or justice. When the president stands up and uses fear, ignorance, crudeness and lies, what kind of role model is that for our children? What happened to this party?

Fear and ignorance are never a basis for running a country or problem solving. Remember that a nation doesn’t have to be cruel to be great, and silence won’t protect us.
