Letter to the Editor: Fire Chiefs Association Opposes EMS Privatization

The Door County Fire Chiefs Association represents the Ten (10) Fire Departments serving the citizen’s and guests of Door County. The Fire Chiefs, the Departments they represent and the communities they serve have a long and positive partnership with Door County EMS in providing emergent care to the sick and injured across Door County.

The Fire Chiefs Association does not support the current move to consider privatization of EMS services in Door County, however, we do understand that the county has the right to consider the termination of the County provided EMS services. The termination of County provided EMS would allow for the possibility of a private ambulance service to enter into EMS coverage contracts for Door County.

The Fire Chief’s strongly believe that public safety (Law Enforcement, Fire and EMS) are best provided by public entities who are focused on customer service and ultimately answer to the public they serve.

The Fire Chiefs will continue to work collaboratively to maintain, deliver and improve the high level of care the public deserves, while keeping the trust the public has placed in us.

The Door County Fire Chiefs is a not for profit 501(c)(3) Association formed in 2008 to promote the Fire Safety, Education and Prevention activities while supporting the Ten (10) Fire Departments in Door County.
