Letter to the Editor: House and Garden Walk Organizers Thank You

The 59th Annual Door County House and Garden Walk, sponsored by the Door County Medical Center Auxiliary, was a huge success. The Walk, held this year on July 30th, is the signature fund-raising event of the auxiliary and this year we raised almost $51,000 – all of which will be donated to the Door County Medical Center Skilled Nursing Facility and Hospice Care Center. A huge thank you to committee members, volunteers, homeowners, sponsors, artists, master gardeners, ticket outlets, local businesses, and Walk participants. You made our Walk a resounding success.

Thank you, homeowners, for opening your homes for this great cause: 3 Sevens Home, Board Home, Mariner Shore Home, Door County Retreat and KipDee Cottage. Without your generosity, there could be no Walk. Over 50 Door County businesses were supportive sponsors. Thank you so much! Thanks also to our ticket outlets who advertised the event to our community and beyond: Door County Coffee and Tea Co., Door County Medical Center Gift Shop, Door County Visitor Bureau, Jerry’s Flowers, Main Street Market, and Nicolet Bank.

This year’s walk also featured seven Door County artists: Rick Brawner, Judi Ekholm, Sarah Schaller, Dale Vanden Houten, David LaMela, Nan Zimdars and Kate Hughes. The Walk also featured master gardeners, and participants enjoyed seeing their creative skills in action. We are grateful for their contributions. Thank you to Woodwalk Gallery that featured over 70 local and regional artists. Also on hand were many local artisans providing an amazing array of handcrafted items and tasty sweets. Woodwalk Gallery also donated a custom-made table created by “Rustic By Design” that was raffled off to a lucky winner.

More than 150 volunteers, mostly auxiliary members, along with community members guided walkers through the homes. Thank you for a splendid job. And finally, we are so fortunate to live in a community that has embraced this walk for 59 years. We cannot thank you enough for your support and participation and we hope to see you at the 60th House and Garden Walk next year.
