Congratulations to the many Door County businesses that have signed the Ceres Climate Declaration [volume 22, issue 26].
While state and federal governments stonewall and protest loudly that going green will hurt the economy, businesses in Door County and across the nation are quietly proving that this is not true. These businesses are looking ahead, not backward, and embracing the many benefits that sustainable practices and clean energy offer not only to their own bottom line, but to the economy in general as well as public health, the environment, a livable climate, and our future.
Business is leading the way in the best market-driven sense. Wouldn’t it be nice if the Walker administration and Congress would help this along instead of resolutely trying to prevent the transition?
