Letter to the Editor: Meanwhile, Back in D.C.

While we the people have watched in horror with mass shootings and occasional stabbings thrown in our Congress has continued to do nothing. Mitch McConnell, the obstructionist leader of the Senate, has more than 200 bills sitting on his desk that he won’t bring to a vote. Among them pertaining to safe elections and gun safety. So, what are we going to do about this? We can sit back and ignore what is going on because it’s not directly affecting me yet or are we going to raise our voices and say enough.

Here is some information that you might give some thought to. Congress is off four weeks in August, one week in September, two weeks in October, one week in November, and 2½ weeks in December. Their average salary is $174,000 and they want a raise, in looking at this information just who are these people working for? No bills coming out of the Senate to make us safer, but oh, they come home and listen to their constituents with all the town hall meetings they have. Really, how many do you recall during this past year so far, and town hall meetings over the phone don’t count.

Would any employer consider that full time work? Why should we??
