Letter to the Editor: My Observations

I have been testing the waters of Kewaunee County for over six years now. I think it’s time for the truth! We are in a water emergency, and it will get worse. My county will get little help from the EPA and DNR – this is not new.

What is new is this: We are not getting enough help from our elected officials. Do they have the “stones” for the fight? This leaves you and me. My county is trucking semi loads of liquid manure into Door County. This will only get worse with more people in Kewaunee County saying no to spreading on their land.

My county is ground zero in this fight, and the people are wising up. It’s time Door County does! If your county won’t stop this, then the landowners can and should. Stop renting your land for the spreading of their manure. These commercial factory farms will get all the water they ask for. They will get all the animals they ask for. What they do not have is enough land!

I do not blame the animals. They are doing nothing wrong. Could the problem be their owners? Farming created this problem, and farming can and must fix it. How long will you wait?
