Letter to the Editor: Our Country Is Better than This

At a Trump rally in Iowa on Oct. 9, 2018, many people began chanting “Lock her up” – apparently referring to California Senator Dianne Feinstein. Why? Trump often incites rude chants at his rallies and then claims that Republicans must resist the mob rule of the Democrats. What is this all about? Earlier in October Trump ridiculed Dr. Blasey Ford’s sexual assault testimony. Why does he act in this manner? Why do we allow it?

There are many internet websites that monitor, record and count the number of lies or misleading statements that Trump has declared since he took office. In the last year and a half, he has successfully driven a wedge between the people of this country. He makes no attempt to govern for all of us. He operates on a “win or lose” basis. His ugly behavior becomes the norm; others begin to adopt similar actions. What was once viewed as a shocking performance is now seen as normal conduct for this President.

Trump treats adult immigrants as though they were criminals; immigrant children as though they do not matter; women as objects; those who disagree with him as enemies.

I do not care if a person is a Republican or a Democrat; we must stop accepting this behavior. Our country is better than this; we are better than this.
