Letter to the Editor: Save Resources for Future Generations

My wife, Lynnann, and I are both retired professionals who have recently chosen to move our place of residence to Door County. We believe that Door County is our heaven on earth. We also hope it can be that same special place for our children.

We were thrilled to see the article in the recent Peninsula Pulse entitled, “Door County Businesses Sign Ceres Climate Declaration.” It is significant that over 80 Door County businesses are willing to pledge their support to reduce the carbon footprints of their facilities and activities.

Lynnann and I have children and grandchildren who will benefit from initiatives such as the Ceres Climate Declaration. We pray that our children can enjoy the resources past generations have protected for us.

Through extensive travel we have witnessed first-hand the reticence of our political leaders, governments, and businesses to assure that the public health, security, and economic wellbeing of our planet is intact. We fear that other businesses don’t share the mission of those in Door County.

Beyond the noble efforts of the Climate Change Coalition of Door County, we sincerely applaud the Blacksmith Inn, Chop, Lure, Pasta Vino and Waseda Farms for their leadership on this issue.

We were in Door County during the May forum of the Climate Change Coalition of Door County. The speakers were exceptional! Although the turnout was impressive, we hope next time to see even more individuals concerned about the climate change issues facing us today.

None of us can wait for a broken political system to fix an ever-increasing problem. We must unite to help protect Door County and indeed our planet for those of the next generations.
