Wisconsin’s United States Senator Tammy Baldwin has consistently stated she will not support any health care legislation that promotes junk health care plans or takes away affordable coverage for people with pre-existing conditions.
Approximately 2.4 million Wisconsinites (according to Citizen Action Wisconsin) have health conditions that could be designated as pre-existing conditions. Before the Affordable Care Act became law some health conditions that were routinely denied coverage or charged more by health insurers included cancer, diabetes, acne, and even pregnancy.
On Sept. 6, 2018, Senator Baldwin signed a pledge that if she is honored by the people of Wisconsin with election to the U.S. Senate, she will oppose any attempts to discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions in our healthcare system. Her opponent (as reported in Urban Milwaukee, Sept. 4, 2018) is backing a lawsuit that wants to invalidate the Affordable Care Act’s protections for Wisconsinites with pre-existing conditions. She called this a “necessary step.”
Elections have consequences. Your health care coverage and your friends’ and family’s health care coverage may depend on who we Wisconsinites elect to represent us in the United States Senate this fall. The choice for me couldn’t be more clear. I will be voting for Tammy Baldwin for United States Senator in November. Please vote. Our democracy depends on it.
