Letter to the Editor: Thank You, Sturgeon Bay

Wow, words cannot even come close to the excitement that filled the campaign celebration room Tuesday night. To be part of such an amazing community is something I never take for granted, and the heart I see in this community is truly something special.

First, I’d like to say thank you to every volunteer, supporter and mentor throughout this campaign. I couldn’t have made it here without your help, I am forever humbled by the output of support I’ve received throughout this endeavor. A special thank you to Charolette Baierl who

was there behind the scenes through rain, sleet and snow encouraging me when I needed it most. The heart she has to help foster a more inclusive community is contagious and inspiring.

I am honored to have been elected to represent and work for those living in District 4, but districts are merely lines on a map, and I realize I represent the entire community. I look forward to learning more about how city government works, finding ways we can improve and moving

this community forward in a positive, more inclusive way that welcomes all voices, moves out from behind closed doors and starts talking to the public once again.

I believe we all love this town and it is time to build bridges and move forward as a community, working hand-in-hand to create the best Sturgeon Bay for everyone now and for our future generations.

Now, Westside, let’s see if I can help move those dirt piles!

Kelly Avenson, Incoming Alderperson, District 4

Sturgeon Bay, Wis.
