Letter to the Editor: Thank You to Our Local Government

Thank you to the following municipal boards for their leadership in representing Door County citizens and passing resolutions calling on “the Wisconsin State Legislature, and our locally elected representative, to provide the voters of the state with an opportunity to speak through a non-binding statewide Referendum asking if they, the voters, support an amendment to the U.S. Constitution stating:  Only human beings – not corporations, unions, SuperPACs or similar associations – are endowed with individual constitutional rights, and Money is not speech, and therefore limiting political contributions and spending is not equivalent to restricting political speech.” The goal is to make Wisconsin the 20th state calling for such an Amendment to allow Congress to place reasonable limits on outside campaign money in our elections.

Here’s how our local boards voted:  Sturgeon Bay (City) 7-0, Baileys Harbor 5-0, Egg Harbor (Town) 5-0, Liberty Grove 4-0 (1 absent), Egg Harbor (Village) 5-0, Ephraim 5-0, Forestville (Town) 3-0, Gibraltar 4-1, Sturgeon Bay (Town) 3-0, Jacksonport 3-0, Brussels 3-0, Forestville (Village) 3-0 (2 absent), Clay Banks 3-0, Nasewaupee 3-0, Union 3-0, Gardner 5-0 and County Board of Supervisors 19-2.
