Letter to the Editor: Thanks for a Great Memorial Day

The members of the Door County Veterans Service Council would like to thank everyone that helped with the Sturgeon Bay Memorial Day ceremony – including Vietnam veteran Colonel Lawrie for speaking, our Chaplain Pastor Sauer, Andy Anderson and Mary Nickel for sounding taps, Director Paula Eggert and the Peninsula Symphonic Band for all of the great patriotic music, Robert DeMeuse for ringing the bell, the County of Door, the City of Sturgeon Bay, the media for all of the coverage before and after Memorial Day, and all of the volunteers that helped to honor our fallen comrades. Thank you to Police Chief Porter for being on hand to assist. A special thank you to Chief Dietman and the Sturgeon Bay Fire Department for allowing us to set up in the equipment bays. All of the help by the SBFD firefighters was invaluable – before, during, and after the ceremony. The veterans community would like to thank Chief Dietman, Lieutenant Ken Doell and Firefighter Mike Paye for all of their help!

We would also like to thank all of the people that turned out to attend the ceremony. Most of all, we would like to thank the family and friends of the men whose names are engraved on the Door County Veterans Memorial – thank you for your sacrifice. They will not be forgotten.

Joe Heilman, Chairman, Door County Veterans Service Council

Sturgeon Bay, Wis.
