Letter to the Editor: Thanks for Supporting Our Veterans

The members of the Door County Veterans Service Council would like to thank everyone that helped with the annual Door County Veterans Day ceremony at Gibraltar High School – including Secretary Scocos and Colonel Lawrie for speaking, Charlie Eckhardt for sounding taps, and the band and choir for all of the great patriotic music (directors Charlie Eckhardt and Mary Bondeson, respectively). Thank you to Student Council President Hadley Reetz for leading the Pledge of Allegiance as well as doing an outstanding patriotic reading. Thank you to Senior Class President Olivia Alberts for accepting the United States flag for Gibraltar Schools. The performance of patriotic songs by Lori Free’s elementary music students was priceless! Thank you to American Legion Post 527 for providing the rifle squad. Thank you Steve Higginbotham and the custodial staff as well as Kurt Thomas for his expertise running the sound/lights in the auditorium. A special thank you to Gibraltar High School Principal Dr. Methner, his staff, and the students for all of their efforts in helping to plan and coordinate the ceremony.

All of the veterans and their families very much appreciated the lunch that was provided after the ceremony – thank you Carla Marr, Mary Witteborg, the student volunteers, and the Gibraltar kitchen staff. Thank you Superintendent Van Meer for your support – and helping to serve at the luncheon.

Thank you A.J. Frank for providing one of your Door County Trolleys to give the veterans that needed a ride a way to get to the ceremony.

Thank you to all for showing your support for our veterans!
