Letter to the Editor: Thanks to Our Sponsors

Literacy Door County (LDC) is a nonprofit group that provides one-on-one tutoring in English to anyone who wants to improve their speaking, reading and writing skills. The only cost to the student is the price of the workbook. Someone from LDC meets with each student to determine their level of English; we match the student with a tutor; the student and tutor then decide on the dates and times for the tutoring classes. We tutor in public places like the library.

LDC trains the tutors and provides the curriculum used. We do our best to give each student what he or she needs to be successful.

Along with teaching English, Literacy Door County offers assistance with citizenship studies or with other goals that the student may have.

On November 4, 2018 LDC celebrated its Second Annual Student/Tutor Recognition Event. We celebrated having successfully helped three students gain citizenship; one student achieve her HSED; and three students qualify for better jobs. Our students and tutors work hard, they have fun and they share their stories. At this time, we have about 25 tutoring pairs. It is a priceless experience.

Literacy Door County wants to publicly thank the sponsors who helped with this event:  Hope United Church of Christ, Door County Medical Center, Culver’s, Olson Dental LLC and Door County Coffee & Tea.  LDC could not exist without help from our community! Thank you!
