Letter to the Editor: Use the Power of the Ballot Box

On April 15 in a televised interview James Comey, former head of the FBI, described President Trump as morally unfit for the Presidency.  Comey said other things in the interview and I believe of most importance was his response when asked about impeaching the president. Comey indicated  that it would not be in the best interest of the American people to impeach Trump. Keeping in mind that impeachment is only the bringing of charges and if it resulted in a congressional trial and Trump’s subsequent  removal from office the party he represented would still be in control and he would probably be replaced by a member(s) of his own party who have accepted Trump’s sad governance. Comey’s suggestion was that the American people change the direction of this country by using the power of the ballot box.

Today we have millions of dollars being used to try to influence elections but that money will matter little if the voters in sufficient numbers, after using multiple sources of information, study the issues objectively and then vote for candidates that share their views.

Important issues include campaign finance reform, protecting voter rights, placing the environment before profits, life saving gun legislation, fair taxation without ballooning the deficit, affordable health  care and an opportunity for affordable quality education for all, national security while working with our allies, a fair immigration policy and a host of others. Remember, if you don’t use your opportunity to vote you have relinquished your right to complain.
