Letter to the Editor: Vote Blue for Jobs and Families

Many thanks to Indivisible Door County for its informative ad in the Feb. 11 Pulse. We all yearn to see a rising economy and wise presidential stewardship so that all Americans – not just the super rich – can have meaningful work, feed and house their families, access effective medical care, educate their children and engage in their communities.

Under Joe Biden’s leadership, the economy is improving dramatically. Gross domestic product (GDP), employment and wage levels have all grown by historic amounts during the first year of Biden’s presidency, boosted significantly by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of March 2021.

No thanks to Republicans, though, who were unanimous in opposing ARPA. I believe they are obsessively determined to block anything that might improve conditions in the country and in doing so, give Joe Biden a “win,” so they voted no – no to job growth, no to wage increases, no to improvement in the GDP. Among our members of Congress, Rep. Mike Gallagher and Sen. Ron Johnson voted no.

The best path forward as our country continues to tackle the massive issues created by the COVID-19 pandemic is to learn from the successes of ARPA and other Biden initiatives, and vote for candidates who support jobs and families.
