Letter to the Editor: Vote Him Out!

On Oct. 6, Facebook removed a post by Donald Trump because it contained misinformation about the dangers of COVID-19. This was also done on Aug. 8 by Facebook and Twitter for the same reasons. On Oct. 1, Cornell University researchers reported that Donald Trump is the “single largest driver” of COVID misinformation. They found that he is responsible for 38 percent of COVID media misinformation.

It is mind boggling that our president will shamelessly tell lies that can destroy people’s lives. Even before the COVID pandemic, prominent Americans have described the president as having no moral compass (Gen. James Mattis) or in Sen. Romney’s words, “unprecedented corruption.”

Donald Trump’s management qualities fall in the category of cult leadership. Just listen to him, especially at his rallies. He can get his followers to chant anything he wants them to. He talks like a bully, mocks people, is crude and vulgar – and the crowd can’t get enough. He is worshipped like a cult leader. Before the 2016 election, he told journalist Leslie Stahl that he keeps repeating the phrase “fake news” so that whenever something unfavorable is written about him, all he will have to do is make that statement.

He’s also used words such as “hoax” and “rigged” to make people feel that he’s being berated. It seems the truth is that his administration is a hoax, and he wants to rig the election to favor his reelection. He will call someone a disaster when, in fact, he has been a disaster for this country. He has no empathy for the children taken from their parents, or for all the Americans who have lost loved ones to COVID.

These past four years have not been a bright time in American history, but I do have hope that most Americans will no longer tolerate the president’s divisive, cruel and self-aggrandizing speech and will take the advice given recently by the New England Journal of Medicine: Vote him out!
