Letter: Visit This Green Home

With the falling of the leaves and the coming of winter, the White House declares October National Energy Awareness Month. I’m doing my part to increase energy awareness by participating in the Wisconsin Solar Tour and opening my home Saturday, Oct. 3, to showcase the renewable energy systems of my home (120 Alabama St., Sturgeon Bay). So please come visit.

I am one of the homes and businesses in Wisconsin holding open house tours of their renewable energy systems and energy efficient projects between 10 am and 4 pm. The public is encouraged to visit homes and businesses on the tour to learn firsthand the benefits and costs to clean energy and energy efficiency. The tours also give Wisconsinites a glimpse of the variety and diversity of renewable energy and green building projects. To see tours across the state visit: midwestrenew.org/solartour.

On my home, with LEED platinum certifications verifying thermal and electrical energy and rainwater savings, I am drastically reducing my carbon footprint and utility costs. I am excited to share my experience as a homeowner with renewable energy systems so please visit on Oct. 3.

The Wisconsin Solar Tour is part of the 20th Annual National Solar Tour, promoted by the Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) and the American Solar Energy Society.

MREA is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) educational organization. Founded in 1990, the MREA promotes renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable living through education and demonstration. To learn more, call 715.592.6595 or visit midwestrenew.org.
