Letters to the Editor: A Profile in Courage

I never thought I would write this: Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, deserves a Profile in Courage award.  I never believed he would go against the MAGA right-wing fringe over shutting down the government. But he did. He was “the adult in the room.”

President John F. Kennedy was given a Pulitzer Prize for Profiles in Courage, a book pointing out politicians who did the right thing, even when the political stakes were high. Kevin deserves a Profile in Courage award because he could lose his Speakership this week for doing the right thing, as the MAGA minions rise to recall him. Who would have thought it?

Kevin and the other 90 Republicans in the caucus give me hope; hope that Democrats and Republicans can actually put the country first. We shall see in just 45 days. Until then, Kevin, you deserve our respect.
