  • Letter to the Editor: A Call to Arms for State Gun Reforms

The League of Women Voters of Wisconsin mourns the loss of scores of innocent lives in three recent mass shootings in one week. Like so many others, we are frustrated that these tragedies continue and nothing is done to stop them.  There are many problems that contribute to the increasing incidence of these horrific crimes, […]

  • Letter to the Editor: My Voting Priorities

Democratic candidates have taken a page out of Trumps playbook and that is to make yourself look good by tearing others down. Candidates Booker and Harris have criticized Biden on some issues because he is the front runner. I will vote for the candidate that tells us what they are for and following are my […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Regarding Joint Finance Committee’s Political Delay

I am in receipt of a letter from Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald regarding my statements about the Joint Finance Committee’s inaction in providing the resources to help rural Wisconsin. This is not a partisan issue – this is an emotional issue. I’m the head of the agency that regularly receives phone calls from farmers […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Laying a Claim to Water Rights in Ephraim

In Ephraim, a conflict is brewing over a classic case of public versus private rights. On one side is the Yacht Harbor, a for-profit business offering moorage for boats throughout the summer. This spring, the Harbor applied to the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to move its existing pier toward the edge of its property […]

  • Letter to the Editor: How Ironic

Isn’t it more than a little ironic that Republicans are attacking the progressive Democrats as “damned Socialists” when they themselves are either willing or unwitting agents of Russia. I say this in part because of Mitch McConnell and his cronies, who continue to block any legislation that would begin to address the cyber attacks on […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Couple Appreciates DCVB’s Attention to Detail

My wife and myself called the DCVB to obtain 2019 visitors guides after discovering our info was outdated. The level of professional, accommodating attention to our particular circumstances was amazing. Not only did the info specialist answer all questions politely and completely, but also sent an unexpected package to our home in Racine, Wis. In […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Ad Hoc Waterfront, Yawn Inspiring

Laurel Hauser described the glaringly obvious flaws comprising the Sturgeon Bay Ad Hoc Waterfront Committee “plan,” recommendations on July 16, 2019, when she wrapped up their presentation with the word “compromise,” and the phrase, “nobody got everything they wanted.” While genuine and sincere thanks for the committee member efforts is entirely warranted and the process […]

  • Letter to the Editor: SB288 and AB303: Redistricting Bills

Recently, bills have been introduced in both houses of the Wisconsin Legislature (AB303 and SB288) that are designed to finally put an end to the practice of gerrymandering in this state. The League of Women Voters of Door County supports these bills for fairer elections, and we are pleased and grateful that our local representative, […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Return to Sender

Mr. President: I apologize for not having written in awhile. I know how much you need lavish praise about the very, very stupendous job you are doing making America not only great again but free to hate again, especially those “other” Americans who disagree with you and your “policy for profit” administration. I’ve heard some […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Independence Day and the Military

I am afraid I have to take exception to a letter in last week’s Pulse that claimed the military had nothing to do with the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.  First, a little history check. The war with Britain had begun in April of 1775 when shots were fired on the greens […]

  • Letter to the Editor: In Support of the Electoral College

In Donald Howard’s letter published in the July 12-19th edition, he suggests that the Electoral College should be eliminated. That is a very bad idea. The Founders created the Electoral College to ensure the states were fairly represented. Why should one or two densely populated areas speak for the whole of the nation? Consider that […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Crimes Against Humanity

On Friday, July 12th, I joined more than 80 people in Sturgeon Bay to hold a vigil against the camps that embody the current U.S. policy toward migrants seeking asylum from terrifying conditions in Central America only to be herded into prison camps at our border or “disappeared” into private jails or sent back to […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Boys & Girls Club Celebrity Golf Outing Was Big Success

The Boys & Girls Club of Door County would like to thank all those involved in making our 10th Annual Celebrity golf outing a resounding success. The outing was recently held at the prestigious Horseshoe Bay Golf Club in Egg Harbor. We have many to thank for the outcome of this event, which raised funds […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Feeling Sorry for Biden

I can’t be the only guy who feels sorry for Joe Biden. After the 2016 election, with the defeat of Hillary and the retirement of President Obama, Biden was the most prominent and respected Democrat politician in the nation. Little did he know that the time for “conventional” Democrats had expired. Extreme left-wing socialist activists […]

  • Letter to the Editor: A Note to Tom Perez

A note to Tom Perez, Chair of the Democratic National Committee … Helloo!!!! Are you there? You missed a golden opportunity to push back against a singularly shameful episode from the President regarding the four House Congresspersons who recently were the targets of his tweets. Of course, the goal, as always, is to defeat him […]

  • Letter to the Editor: ‘Incorrect, Ignorant, Divisive’

Today, July 14, 2019, our President, on Twitter, told 4 Congresswomen in the House of Representatives to “go back to the countries they came from”. This is such an incorrect, ignorant, and divisive thing to say. Three of these Congresswomen were born in America, and one was born in Somalia and is now an American […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Thanks for Writing about Lyme Disease

I’d like to thank Celeste for writing about Lyme Disease being on the rise. I was bit in our yard in Egg Harbor in 2013 and never saw the tick on me, even after a tick check. It was a nymph deer tick which is as small as a period.  I only hope Door County […]

  • Letter to the Editor: A Better Solution Than Stopping Dog and Cat Sales

This is a response to a news item from Wisconsin Public Radio, and published in the June 28, 2019 issue of the Peninsula Pulse newspaper. The subject in question is a bill authored by state representative LaKeshia Myers (D-Milwaukee), that would prohibit pet stores from selling dogs and cats, beginning Jan. 1. President and CEO […]

  • Letter to the Editor: The ‘Minute-And-A-Half Man’

Following is a copy of a letter included in a gift for our great grandson’s first birthday: The Minute-And-A-Half Man is a book long out of print; however there is a story behind the story. My husband Bob was in college from 1963-1967 at Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin. Bob read to our son each […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Connecting Dots

The other day I submitted a letter about connecting the dots between water quality issues and elected officials. That is still a very good idea. However, we must be ever vigilant when it comes to dot connecting. Let’s keep connecting the dots between public policy and elected officials.  Recently our nation commemorated D-Day. A remarkable day in […]
