  • Letter to the Editor: Dear Santa

’Tis the season, and it seems you’re backlogged on my wish list. I’ve not won the lottery yet, and there is no Ferrari in my driveway. I have a proposition for you: I’ll forfeit the winning ticket and I’ll muddle through with my used car for just one wish. You might be surprised to know […]

  • Letter to the Editor: An Open Letter to Joel Kitchens

Mr. Kitchens: I urge you to do the right and responsible thing in opposing the “special” initiatives drafted by Rep. Vos and State Sen. Fitzgerald suborning the November election results by seeking to curb the incoming Democratic administration of the ability to effectively govern according to their stated goals. The people spoke in November, and […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Thanks for Attending Salute to Veterans Dinner

The members of the Door County Veterans Service Council would like to thank everyone that attended the Salute to Veterans Dinner on Saturday evening, Nov. 10, at Corpus Christi Parish Social Hall. All of the proceeds from the dinner will be used to help needy veterans in Door County. The Veterans Service Council would like […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Hoping Strobe Light Disappears

What’s with the super bright “strobe light” on the radio towers located on the corner of Whitefish Bay Road and County HH? It’s not inviting to vacationers driving on Highway 42. They don’t expect to see that in “Door County!” As a resident living 1.5 miles away from the strobe light, I see it reflecting […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Starter Thoughts for Immigration Reform

Americans are being tested today on many things; for me, immigration is the most painful test. The images of immigrant children being torn from their parents, and crying while being gassed invade my sleep. My Advent reading is the latest of Pope Francis’s books A Stranger and You Welcomed Me. The title comes from Matthew […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Consider Giving to DOOR CANcer

At this time of year, as we start thinking of the gifts we want to give, it is also time to think of the gifts we have received throughout the year. The list starts with faith and family and living in this wonderful community. Another precious gift is that of our health. However, many in […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Immigration Reform Needed

Recently, the Trump Administration has moved to block victims of abuse and trafficking from seeking asylum in the United States with several unprecedented announcements that will jeopardize these survivors’ ability to safely enter the United States to seek available legal protections. The Trump administration has made the claim that the entry of migrants is a […]

  • DCEC Position Statement on the Gills Rock Project

On October 16th, by a vote of 111-19, Town of Liberty Grove (TLG) residents approved the purchase of three Gills Rock shoreline properties for $1.45 million. According to TLG Chairman John Lowry, “The Town has no plans for these properties,” and “What we want to do is come back to the electors for the electors […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Thanks for Making Thanksgiving Meal Possible

The 39th annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner held at the Sturgeon Bay United Methodist Church was a rousing success feeding over 360 individuals. More than 180 people dined at church and another 180 home deliveries and carry out meals were provided. People who would have been alone or had no one to be with on the […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Why We Can’t Have Nice Things

I own Door County Speech Therapy on Third Avenue in Sturgeon Bay in what, I’ve been told, was the old First National Bank building. This was the second year I participated in the Thrills on Third trick-or-treating event. The day before the event I hurriedly purchased some inexpensive pumpkins and decorated them. Nothing too elaborate, […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Thanks for Your Generosity

During the holiday season, when we are focused on kindness, gratitude, and generosity, we want to take the time to thank those who helped make the Neighbor to Neighbor 2018 Rib Fest a great success. First of all, we would like to thank the chefs: Casey’s BBQ & Smokehouse (who has been a part of […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Dear Sigmund

I know this person that is in desperate need of mental help and refuses to seek it. I will share some of the symptoms they suffer from, and hopefully you will be able to make a diagnosis. Habitual liar, no empathy, cannot distinguish between fact and fiction, obsessed with power, money, and the size of […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Thanks to Our Sponsors

Literacy Door County (LDC) is a nonprofit group that provides one-on-one tutoring in English to anyone who wants to improve their speaking, reading and writing skills. The only cost to the student is the price of the workbook. Someone from LDC meets with each student to determine their level of English; we match the student […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Enough Is Enough

God, guns and guts made America great, not someone like Donald Trump. I would like to commend Democratic Senator Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, who showed her guts by following her conscience not the populous, during the Kavanaugh vote. She showed strong leadership regardless of the consequences. Yet sadly we Americans have had to witness […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Excellent Customer Service at Novel Bay Booksellers

I love books, libraries, and bookstores. I do not have a Kindle or Nook, and I don’t order from Amazon. Therefore I was happy to see the new book store in Sturgeon Bay – Novel Bay Booksellers on Third Avenue. John (the owner) located a book for me:  The Minute and a Half Man (long […]

  • Letter to the Editor: The Great White Nationalist Tour

Mr. President, I am impressed! Thirty rallies in little more than a month leading up to the mid-terms! You, Sir, are the Energizer bunny of white nationalism! You keep going and going and going, giving us “adorable deplorables” all your greatest hits: “Lock Her Up!” “Evil Democrats!” “Build the Wall!” “The Witch Hunt Hop!” “CNN […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Thanks to Old Bolts Car Club

Lakeshore Community Action Program (CAP) thanks the Old Bolts Car Club for their generous donation from the Car Show held on September 15 in downtown Sturgeon Bay. The many hours of volunteer time the Club puts into planning and running this show makes it one of the best in the state. The proceeds of the […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Thanks for Running a Smooth Event

Now that Door County’s high season is ending I finally have time to reflect and give thanks for an event that marks the start of the busy season. I wanted to thank and congratulate the Peninsula Pacers for their work on the Door County Half Marathon event that occurred this past May. I am a […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Marxist Methodology

The fundamental law of Marxism is that the “state” gathers the wealth of a country and redistributes it to what Valdimir Lenin called the masses. Socialist, Communistic and Fascist governments all use the gathering of the wealth and redistributing of the same to the benefit of their country’s citizens. All Scandinavian countries, which are judged […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Increase Voting Age to 21

Those of us who came of age in the 1960s were shaped by the events of that tumultuous decade. There were huge racial riots in the streets of major cities, employment for women in many professions was very limited, and most of all for us young men, the spectre of being drafted into military service […]
