  • Letter to the Editor: It’s Too Late to Come Forward

This is in response to a letter from the Door County Board of Directors of the Door County Environmental Council, Inc. printed in the Oct. 12 Pulse. Your comments are appreciated but way too late. Where were you four years ago when all of the streetscape plans were beginning and we needed your expertise? Well […]

  • Letter to the Editor: The Morality and Ethics of Tammy Baldwin

What ever happened to the concept of human decency in the way we speak to one another? Even in the way we debate one another? Big money, greed, and the insatiable quest for power have replaced civility and acceptable forms of communication. Watching the debate between Tammy Baldwin and her opponent, one was struck by […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Not All Americans Benefit from ‘Flourishing Economy’

President Trump constantly gives himself credit for a flourishing economy but the question is who are the beneficiaries? My working life was from 1955 to 1990. I had graduated from college, worked at several jobs the last one being in the Wisconsin Technical College System. Like most of my neighbors we were considered middle class, […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Strong Support For Caleb Frostman

Senator Caleb Frostman has earned my strong support for re-election. He has a commanding presence and speaks with accuracy and authority which should serve him well in the Wisconsin State Senate. He is plain spoken and direct and demonstrates his breadth of knowledge regarding the issues facing Wisconsin. His background in economic development and finance […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Civility and Mob Rule

All of your readers should look with disapproval upon the tactics that  Democrats and many of their followers are using. Think about the accosting of Ted Cruz and his wife trying to have a private meal in a restaurant, finally driving them out. Similar things happened to Sarah Sanders in a Red Hen restaurant where […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Consider a Cantilever Boardwalk

There is no need to try an experimental tower that looks bad. In Jasper, Alberta, Canada, they have a wonderful setup for a lookout . We don’t need something this extravagant, but we should open planners’ eyes to existing designs done elsewhere. I think there should be a cantilever boardwalk that allows people to see […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Equal Justice for Women

It is often said that the arc of history bends toward justice; I believe it does. What is rarely said is that the arc’s bending is slow, and the pain of injustice is great. This fact became poignantly evident to millions of American women as Brett Kavanaugh was elevated to the Supreme Court. If you […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Open Letter to Senator Susan Collins

Dear Senator Collins, Your recent speech regarding Judge Kavanaugh was riveting and comprehensive. Thank you for your astute analysis of the confirmation process which we endured watching and listening to. We appreciate your presentation of the facts surrounding this mob-like political affair. I, too, felt Dr. Ford’s testimony was believable. I wonder, though, whether her therapist enabled her to recall […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Support for Baldwin

I’m urging Wisconsinites to vote for Tammy Baldwin for U.S. Senator on November 6th. Tammy Baldwin keeps fighting for affordable health care and continued coverage of people with pre-existing conditions. In addition, she sponsored legislation, that is now law, called Jason’s Law. This law holds the Veteran’s Administration accountable for the medicines they prescribe for […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Baldwin Shows Compassion

Tammy Baldwin is a good senator and deserves to be in office. She had a big impact not only on me, but my family as well. In 2006 my mom had a stroke at 50 from being on birth control due to bleeding issues. The birth control was manufactured by the pharmaceutical company that’s famous […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Not Supporting Sevastopol Referendum

I also received the mail from the Sevastopol school district and after reading Dan Valosek’s response regarding “We need more funding less local taxation” I cannot agree more that a “no” vote is a must regarding the upcoming proposed funding for $25,100,000. The new superintendent, like his predecessor, is again asking for more money. Several […]

  • Letter to the Editor: We Will Vote ‘Yes’ for Sevastopol Referendum

The youngest students in Sevastopol School are taught in its oldest classrooms, built in 1924, the heyday of silent films, Model T Fords and bootleg booze. Age alone doesn’t disqualify a building as a place of learning, but Sevastopol, a National Blue Ribbon School, has coped since the 1920s through prudent spending and innovative use […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Door County LWV Supports All School Referendums

The Door County League of Women Voters urges residents of the school districts of Gibraltar, Sevastopol and Southern Door to support their school’s educational programs. Since 1927 the League of Women Voters at the national, state and local levels has studied and promoted improvement of public education. The League supports a system of school funding […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Support Safe Cosmetics Act

We are a small personal care company in Sturgeon Bay. For many years we have advocated for safety in cosmetics, and there is some real action in the field right now with new research and a bill on the floor on Congress. Here’s the problem. Dozens – sometimes even hundreds – of chemicals hide in […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Winter Nights and Lights

As some of the birds and residents migrate south, many of us will remain here for the winter to enjoy some of the most beautiful scenes and marvels that Door County has to offer; fresh snow, cozy evening fires, and catching up with friends and neighbors at the wonderful venues which stay open for the […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Ephraim Streetscape Drainage Plan

Ephraim is a picturesque village on the bay of Green Bay in Door County and, Ephraim’s shallow Eagle Harbor is blessed with a sand bottom, making it perfect for swimming. Recently, the Ephraim Village Board, without holding a public vote, passed a comprehensive $5 million “Streetscape Plan” that includes new sidewalks, gutters, and drainage for […]

  • Letter to the Editor: We Need More State Funding, Less Local Taxation

I just received mail from Sevastopol School District informing me of two referendum items to be voted upon in the upcoming election:  $2,000,000 operating referendum, and $25,100,000 building referendum. As an educator/teacher for 35 years, I totally support education. I believe that Wisconsin, and in particular, Sevastopol, do a fantastic job of educating our students […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Loyal Trumpublicans, Let’s Boycott!

Mr. President, This upcoming mid-term election poses an existential threat to the TrumpAmerican way of life. From all indicators and polls, a “blue wave” is rising that will result in your party (formerly Republican, now gloriously Trumpublican!) getting swept from the House and maybe even the Senate. Yikes! The thought of no longer listening to […]

  • Letter to the Editor: The Model Code of Judicial Conduct

The American Bar Association has a Model Code of Judicial Conduct. Rule 1.2 states:  “A judge shall act at all times in a manner that promotes public confidence in the independence, integrity and impartiality of the judiciary, and shall avoid impropriety and the appearance of impropriety.” In his Senate hearing last week, in response to […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Thumbs Up Across Wisconsin

When in Sturgeon Bay, drive by the Republican’ headquarters, we’re in the old Sonny’s Pizza building at 43 S. Madison Ave. Note the full size cardboard cutouts of our candidates in the window. They’ll all be on the Nov. 6 ballot, asking for your vote. Stop in Friday, Oct. 5, after 5 pm, for a […]
