  • Letter to the Editor: Not All Heroes Wear Capes

Some wear khaki jackets and blue jeans. Some have white hair. Some waste police resources. Let me explain. On June 16th, I brought my dog Guinness along with me to do some shopping with my sister. We parked in the Walmart parking lot and went into the store, leaving Guinness behind. The weather was a […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Wheel Woes and Trailer Trouble

All was going well traveling from Chippewa Falls to Ellison Bay last Wednesday afternoon until I stopped for gas in Valmy. That’s when I noticed one of my boat trailer wheel bearings smoking. Grrr! It was toast and I was stuck until it was repaired. I sought help from an auto repair business across the […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Alcohol in Door County

We all love to have a drink or two on special occasions, however, Wisconsin is one of the top drinking/drunk states in this whole country. Traditional Door County was quiet family vacations, that is now in jeopardy. We have to start worrying about drunk drivers on single-lane roads at night and day. I think opening […]

  • Letter to the Editor: That Was Painful!

There we were, a room full of conservative constitutionalists, watching returns from a race between the liberal left, and our right-to-work, right-to-carry, right-to-rule our roost, wing of the Republicans Party. God knows why Andre Jacque, a senior statesman, candidate endorsed by so many in Senate District #1, ran a close second most of the night. […]

  • Letter to the Editor: See Dick. See Dick Run.

See Dick run for office, and try his best to destroy Gibraltar. I’m thinking about leaving my wife. The political advantage to our union has been found out! You see, I married Dick Skare’s daughter, well, because she’s Dick Skare’s daughter. All part of our evil plan to ruin Fish Creek. I’m like the Jared […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Formula for Success

Ellison Bay is the lucky recipient of a new business destined for success.   The Last Stop, a gas and mechanical service station (with more fun additions planned) is carrying on the torch of Kenny Goebbel, whose service station has been an Ellison Bay landmark since the ’70s. The new owners, Vaughn and Jorrie Simmons […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Outcry Needed to Stop Terrorizing Children

As an early childhood education specialist, I am alarmed to learn the policy of our government is to separate children from parents at our Southern border as they attempt to enter our country whether seeking asylum or entering illegally.  Like most Wisconsin parents, I can’t imagine having my child taken from me for any reason. […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Baldwin’s Better Quality of Life

What I like about Senator Tammy Baldwin is that she’s working to make the quality of life better for all of us. With the new legislation she has just introduced in the U.S. Senate, she is tackling the issue of clean water in our country and communities. What can be more important than clean, drinkable […]

  • Letter to the Editor: King Donald the First

Mr. President: Has it really been a little more than 500 days and counting since you made us “Great Again” by your own magnanimous presence? I am in awe, Sir, at the speed with which you have brought about peace and prosperity around the world. Old enemies like Vlad Putin and Kim Jung-un are our […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Thank You for Open Door Pride Week

Thank you to Sturgeon Bay Mayor Birmingham and Council members Catarozoli, Hayes, Ward, Avenson, Allmann, Wiederanders and Hauser for proclaiming June 18th through 24th as Open Door Pride Week. Open Door Pride is a grassroots organization working with the City of Sturgeon Bay to ensure that this is a safe and welcoming place for all […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Wisconsin vs. Minnesota Economics

Similar to the outcry against and repudiation of the fellow who produced bogus numbers showing Wisconsin trailing Minnesota economic performance a sorry attempt to make Governor Scott Walker look bad, I found figures to overturn that phoney factory funded by labor unions and George Soros. My figures come from the world renowned IIII, the Independent […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Tell A Lie Long Enough And It Becomes Truth

A recent TV attack ad, against Wisconsin state assemblyman Andre Jacque, who is running for the Wisconsin 1st state senate district vacancy, is yet another scurrilous display of a favorite Democrat campaign tactic here and elsewhere:  repeat a lie long enough and people will eventually think it is true. The ad claims that Andre Jacque […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Blatant Partisan Attack Manipulates Economic Data

I was surprised by the facts stated in Mike Brodd’s Letter to the Editor of June 1 using data supplied by the “independent” Economic Policy Institute or EPI showing that since both the Democratic governor of Minnesota and Governor Walker of Wisconsin took office in 2011, Minnesota had done better with the Democrat policies. My […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Skare-y Stuff

I am becoming increasingly concerned at how the Gibraltar Board Chairman, Dick Skare, an elected official is serving the residents of Gibraltar. Some of his recent actions worth noting are:  1. His vote banning food trucks from Fish Creek, where as a restaurant owner he has a direct conflict of interest and at the very […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Sen. Tammy Baldwin Deserves Our Support

There’s something so real about Tammy Baldwin. She shows up all over the state, discussing critical issues, including health care. She was recently here in Door County meeting with local officials about opioid addiction. She listens. She takes notes. And then she returns to her desk to get to work, to do something that will […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Thanks for Poppy Drive Support

The members of American Legion Post 72 of Sturgeon Bay are extremely grateful for the generosity of all who supported our Poppy Drive on the Friday and Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. We enjoyed talking with veterans about their service and with family members of veterans. A big thank you, as well, to the management […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Caleb Frostman for the Wisconsin Senate

Are you concerned about water quality in Door and Kewanee counties? Air quality? Funding for public schools? The condition of public roads? Access to high-speed internet? Access to mental health professionals who might prevent a school shooting? Health care for opioid addiction? The privatization of prisons? Really affordable health care? Development of alternative energy technologies? […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Frostman a Win for Wisconsin

A sustainable Wisconsin future needs us to Vote for Caleb Frostman for State Senate. June 12th or before is an opportunity for voters in District #1 to bring Caleb Frostman to the state Senate to represent all constituents. Caleb has openly expressed what he has learned to be key challenges that need attention in the […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Small Farms

Does anyone ever care that we are losing our smaller farms? Cheese factories shut down taking smaller farms’ milk because they can’t compete with the factory farms. Where is the fairness in that? The smaller farms are producing a better quality of milk than the big factory farms. Have you traveled the countryside and seen […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Support Tammy Baldwin

You know she’s effective because they’re committing lots of money to try and defeat her. She’s honest, hard-working, communicates caringly with her constituents. Think about how rare that’s become in today’s politics? Really think about it. Then support her integrity with your vote.   Gerri Friedberg Egg Harbor, Wis.
