  • Letter to the Editor: Vote!

Even if you choose not to decide you still have made a choice! Do you care about the environment? Do you care about your friends and family? Do you think fresh clean water is important? Do you think the EPA is important? Would you help to stop a guy that does not? Did you […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Why the Hurry?

On Oct. 25, by a 2-1 vote, the Jacksonport Town Board placed on the agenda for the Nov. 15 meeting of electors the matter of “disposal of town real property, specifically the Koulias house in the Lakeside Park addition.” Why the hurry? And why take the vote when some seasonal residents, many of whom are […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Voting for Clean Air and Water

I was told as a small business owner that it would be detrimental to my business to speak up regarding politics. However, with the lake only a few blocks away from both our home and our business I feel compelled to voice my opinion. Our family moved to Algoma, Wis., to live and start a […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Send Mike Gallagher to Washington

I met Mike Gallagher several weeks ago and was impressed. He listens. He is thoughtful. Mike Gallagher has shown consistent leadership. During college, after joining the Marine Corps, and since then, Mike has demonstrated the leadership and national security experience we need in Washington. Too often we elect people that become another cog in the […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Wisconsin Voters Can Feel Confident in Our Elections

While election observers are nothing new, this may be the first time we are seeing a presidential candidate calling on supporters to become poll watchers because he says there will be massive cheating. The greatest danger of this rhetoric is not that it is false, although there is virtually no evidence of voter impersonation in […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Go the Extra Miles for Nelson’s

Progress is usually good and somewhat inevitable, however, there is value in retaining some history. I know it’s too late to change anything but I needed to vent my frustration. I just bumped into Gary Nelson at the post office. I expressed how much the general store in Baileys Harbor will be missed. My wife […]

  • Letter to the Editor: A CAFO Sucker Punch

In regard to a statement hidden in the corner of the Oct. 12 Door County Advocate (want ads), the State of Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources tentatively wants to renew a permit for a huge CAFO operation, herd size and manure spreading in Forestville. This Dept. is stabbing the Door County citizens in the back […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Feingold’s Out-of-State Support

Why would anyone want to cough up money to support a lifelong political hack who won’t go away? Why would anyone want to contribute to the campaign of a Wisconsin candidate who is running for the fifth time to be our senator and seems to have unlimited cash? More to the point, why would someone […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Joel Kitchens Deserves To Be Re-elected

As a person who has consistently supported Democratic candidates and causes, Joel Kitchens is one of the few Republican candidates that deserves to be re-elected to the 1st Assembly District. Joel has shown the ability to work with the Democratic minority in both the Assembly and Senate and not just a “rubber stamp” for the […]

  • Letter to the Editor: A Sheriff for Kitchens

I have had the honor of serving my community for better part of my adult life. I have worked alongside many appointed and elected officials in various capacities and numerous initiatives. Every now and then a special person enters into my life and brings a new level of enthusiasm and professionalism in their style […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Be Aware of Political Ads

Since we are all being bombarded with political ads, I urge everyone to take a closer look at the contents of these well-financed commercials. Keep in mind that the majority of the spots are being funded by the wealthiest of the wealthy. The current spot, being run by the Gallagher campaign, is truly misleading. It […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Support for Kitchens Re-election

As a teacher and parent of three school-age children, I wholeheartedly support the re-election of Joel Kitchens. It is no secret that Wisconsin Republicans have not always been viewed in the most positive light in regard to public education policy over the last few years. Joel is a huge exception. He is a pragmatist who […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Private Rallies Are Death of Republican Party

It may be too early to predict the death of the Republican Party, but it is not too early to understand the role of the private rally in its current difficulties. I have no idea how many politicians hold private rallies, perhaps many. But I doubt that many successful politicians have taken the private […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Specific Solutions to Environmental Problems

In September I attended a Climate Change Coalition of Door County (CCCDC) presentation given by Tyler Huebner, executive director of RENEW Wisconsin, a renewable energy advocacy focused on advancing wind, solar, bioenergy, and smart energy usage. I have become accustomed to witnessing an impressive assortment of environmental experts in the CCCDC speaker lineup, but it […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Dr. Strangelove and Donald Trump

I recently watched Dr. Strangelove by Stanley Kubrick for the umpteenth time. If you are not familiar, it’s a political satire black comedy about nuclear war between the USA and USSR. There are seven major characters. In a surreal way, they have similar characteristics to those of Donald Trump, and the cast of characters […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Saving Door County From Itself

As we see one Door County icon after another fall to the ax of yet another naïve town, county, or DNR board or committee listening to engineering firms trolling for lucrative municipal projects, we should remember what makes Door County special. It isn’t a widened street that removes every mature tree, a redesigned traffic pattern, […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Enough About Trump

Enough about Trump; he has dug his own grave. The question is how did he get the nomination? I believe his rise started when our country’s festering latent racism emerged with Obama’s election. It’s not just a coincidence that the “birther” issue started with the first black president. Like-minded politicians jumped on the obstructionist bandwagon […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Pay Attention to Green Site Rules

The Baileys Harbor Green Site was opened several years ago to provide a location for Baileys Harbor residents to have a place to dispose of compostable yard waste, and as of this past summer, the town expanded the Green Site to have a permanent recycling site and scrap metal collection. All areas at the Green […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Perpetual Politician

It has to be gross arrogance to run for political office with yard signs that say RUSS in big letters and a much smaller picture of Wisconsin as the entire content. Yes, everybody knows that it’s Russell Feingold running again. This man has never had a real job, he’s been in office or running […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Nelson’s Will Be Sorely Missed

We are third-generation owners and I have been the caretaker of our family cabin for the last 35 years of the 50-plus years our family has been the owner. It goes without saying they [Nelson Shopping Center] will be sorely missed as a quick but permanent solution to problems that arise owning a property originally […]
